Hiking Kolekole Pass

Last Saturday, we went on a short family hike. It had been a long and busy week, so we decided to get out of the house and away from everything still waiting to be done. We need to do that more often! We went and hiked part of Kolekole Pass. For you history buffs, Kolekole pass is where the Japanese initiated their attack on Pearl Harbor. They aircraft used the mountains to mask their approach, and then flew through the pass to attack Wheeler Army Air field. This prevented the Army Air Corps from launching any type of aircraft and possibly interfering with their plans. The pass is only a few miles from our house and offers a great view on the central Oahu plains and part of the leeward coast. Alison took the camera and here is the evidence.

The One Semester Spanish Love Song

Traitor

I went with Alison to see Traitor this weekend. I really liked the movie and recommend it with a little reservation. The language is a bit stronger that I would have liked :( , but it didn't have gratuitous violence or gore :) . I was quickly absorbed into the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do concede that the storyline might be a bit slow for some, but I think that it was just right. Let me know what you think if/when you see it.

Why is this necessary?

When did it become a requirement for newscasters to broadcast from inside every storm? I understand in the early days of broadcast television news it was something new, but it's not new anymore. Please spare us. Everyone is sick of it. Which is why everyone makes fun of it. Its not necessary or informative! Give me the warning. Pass along helpful tips on preparation. Show the projected, but get that idiot in the wind off the screen. This article pretty much sums it up.

What a summer!

Summer is officially over for us. Everyone is back to school and work, and we're back to the daily grind. This summer was a real blast. We all really enjoyed our trip back to Atlanta. The girls still ask when they can go play at the cousins house and swim in their new pool. Here are just a few pictures from this summer.

Well, everyone at the family reunion was asking if I was ever going to update the blog. I guess that a year and two months is a bit long to wait for new posts, so I concede. I will start blogging again... tomorrow :)

Happy Father's Day!

We started our Father's day today because the girls got me something that we can't use on Sunday. They gave me a trailer bike. A trailer bike attaches to the back of a bike and lets children ride behind an adult. This afternoon I took Raegan out first, and then it was Sydney's turn. Over all I think I rode over 8 miles with the girls. They both really loved it. In fact Sydney started crying so hard when we pulled up the driveway that Alison assumed I crashed with her. I told her it was because we were coming home and she just laughed. Later that night Sydney let everyone know how it was. In her prayer she thanked Heavenly Father for HER new bike, and also asked that Raegan would not want to ride HER bike anymore. She also asked that she could ride very far everyday. No sooner that her Amen, Raegan shouted, "its not her bike! I get to ride too!" So, it looks like I get to ride a lot more now. The best Father's Day ever!!

For my inaugural post, I decided to share a fun story involving my daughter. We have two adopted daughters (ages 6 and 5) that bring perspective to life like only children can. Last summer, Raegan was helping me wash the car. My job was to wash the car, and her job was to rinse off the soap. As we washed and rinsed I noticed that she was destracted by a fly. The fly kept buzzing around her head and arms. Finally, in frustration Raegan called to me, "Daddy, it thinks I'm poop!" I was not sure I heard her correctly until she said a second time, "Daddy, it thinks I'm poop!" I asked her what she was talking about. She looked at me and stated matter-of-factly, "I'm brown, so it thinks I'm poop!" I assured her that the fly did not think that she was poop, and laughed for the rest of the day.
